Stay Safe ONLINE
We take children’s safeguarding very seriously in school and understand online safety is something we all have to work together on. Our aim is to help children stay safe online through education, empowering them to make the right decisions, but also by helping signpost some of the best resources and websites to you so you can be proactive in making the best choices for your child before things go wrong.
Our favourite e-safety websites are: (click on the name to go to the website)
The Key Safeguarding - Parent Site is very good for giving you the facts about various games and apps, as well as having a really useful tool to help you set up parental controls on devices at home!
UK Safer Internet Centre has a very helpful up to date parent page helping you with issues such as mobile phones, smart speakers, games consoles, laptops, tablets and social media
Think You Know (CEOP- from the national crime agency) has support for you as parents, but also interactive games for children to teach them about online safety
Also, the NSPCC Online safety section is very good and is always kept up to date too. Do take a good look at them- they are full of up-to-date information.
What should your child do if they see something that upsets them?
- Always tell a trusted adult straight away.
- Save any messages that have upset you so you can show them to who you tell.
- If you don’t want to talk to a trusted adult, you may want to chat to someone else about how you feel. ChildLine is a site where you can have a private chat with someone who will listen to you and not judge you. You can also call them for free on 0800 1111 and it won’t show up on your phone bill.
Advice and guidance on setting up parental controls can be found here or on the NSPCC site.
Fortnite is a very poplar game with children, but it is worth remembering it as an age rating of 12+. CLICK HERE for a video in the 'Internet Matters' website, explaining the game, the risks to young children and how to keep your child safe.
Below are some factsheets designed to help you make sure your child is safe online. Please do take time to look through these- They may just help...
