An introduction....

Trowse Primary School was started in 1870 by the Colman family (famous for Colman's English Mustard and much more) in order to accommodate the educational needs of the workers’ children. Today, we are a popular, successful and friendly primary school for children aged between 4 and 11 years. Our ethos is one of a calm learning environment where children are challenged and supported to be the best they can be.

Although Trowse is located less than a mile from the city of Norwich, we are part of a beautiful village community with plenty of countryside surrounding us. The village has a 'Common' which is used lots by families. We also have Norfolk Snowsports and Whitlingham Adventure on our doorstep, which we use for adventure days, sailing and skiing!

We have a wonderful new purpose-built building (opened November 2020) to meet the needs of our growing village community and beyond. The school has grown from 105 children, increasing by 15 children a year, and now (September 2024) has 200 children on roll. The school will continue to grow next few year to a population of 210 children. We also have a nursery on site, run by 'Chapelfield Children's Day Nursery', which opened September 2021.

Children come from various surrounding villages and Norwich itself to attend Trowse. Currently, approximately 60% of the children who attend the school do not live in the catchment.

The school has a very stable population. Families that send their children to Trowse love it and they stay here. Equally, the staff really enjoy working here and stay - stability is a key feature of the school.

We are a welcoming school and show kindness and respect to all; everyone is valued as an individual. We believe in celebrating achievement and fostering in children an intrinsic motivation to learn about the world around them, equipping them to become SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, CONFIDENT INDIVIDUALS and RESPONSIBLE GLOBAL CITIZENS.

To achieve this we have some fairly unique features for a Norfolk Primary School. We use the International Primary Curriculum- taught in over 90 countries around the world- but no other primary schools in Norfolk. We also make sure children in Key Stage 2 (year 3 upwards) are engaged in pupil coaching (1-2-1 time with the teacher) to reflect on successes and areas for improvement- increasing student independence and making them really ready to move on to High School.

We are proud of our school and everyone associated with it.

If you are interested in this school for your child, please call the school office to enquire about spaces.

Would you like to help support us in our mission to have Responsible Global Citizens who grow up to take care of the world and the people who live on it? This is what you can do at home.

Children should spend time developing a sense of self and their place in the world as well as a sense of other. Being confident in their own identity and taking an interest in others are the foundations for international mindedness and global competence. Engaging with the eight ideas below will support your child with International Learning and Health & wellbeing.
